Anthropic has released its Agent Skills capability as an open standard. A Skill is essentially a folder containing instructions, scripts and resources that an AI agent loads on demand, giving it domain-specific competence.

Why it matters

  • Plugins and GPTs used to be siloed per platform; Skills aims to become the cross-platform de facto standard
  • Reference implementations for document processing and reporting are already open-sourced
  • Multiple agent platforms in China are moving to support it

Our take

If MCP solves “AI meets tools”, Skills solves “AI learns a craft”. Once the standard spreads, an app-store-like market for skills will emerge — which is exactly why this site has a Skills section. We will keep tracking skill packs worth installing.
